THE MIDNIGHT GARDEN
My 2023-2024 body of work was The Midnight Garden, a series of dark, floral, evocative acrylagouache paintings. Diving into Persephone’s garden of myth, I found colorful flowerscapes, mythical creatures (and friendly helpers) hiding among the trees.
Persephone, the Goddess of Spring, is a well-known figure in Greek mythology. Wed against her will to Hades, the God of the Underworld, Persephone is an oft-misunderstood heroine. Her story is ultimately one of agency, strength and resilience. These Midnight Garden works weave together Greek myths and legends, the Victorian language of flowers and just a touch of magic.
